Juri Vips leads the first F3 test day in Misano

There is only 1 month left before FIA Formula 3 European Championship gets under way in Pau, France. This week is the time for the official test days in Misano, Italy.

On the first day the Estonian rookie Juri Vips (Motopark, 1:27.533) sets the fastest time overall which is 0.089 faster than the runner-up Alex Palou (Hitech Grand Prix, 1:27.622). We should mention that 17-year old Vips is 4 years younger than the Spaniard.

Juri Vips came to F3 from ADAC Formula 4 Championship which he won in 2017. His compatriot Ralf Aron (Prema Theodore Racing, 1:27.663) secured the third time with only 0.001 advantage over his teammate Mick Schumacher (1:27.664).

Ralf Aron: “I’m really happy with the car I am provided with by my team, PREMA Theodore Racing. I set my fastest lap time on used tyres and arguably could have been even faster on a fresh set”.

Another two rookies Jonathan Aberdein (Motopark, 1:27.685) and Sacha Fenestraz (Carlin, 1:27.700) completed the top 6 of the very dense field of 21 drivers inside 1 second.

Seventh time went to New Zealand’s Marcus Armstrong (Prema Theodore Racing, 1:27.737). Force India junior Jehan Daruvala (Carlin, 1:27.769) set the 8th time. Guanyu Zhou (Prema Theodore Racing, 1:27.782) and Red Bull junior driver Daniel Ticktum (Motopark, 1:27.785) completed the top 10.

The Ferrari Driver Academy junior Robert Shwartzman (Prema Theodore Racing, 1:27.788) was 11th. His compatriot Artem Petrov (Van Amersfoort Racing, 1:27.903), also a rookie in the championship, was 13th.

The drivers continue their test sessions on Wednesday.
